Energy Solutions have just completed their first dry-ground run in for a Northern Lights marine generator.
The generator was run in through an automated load profile on Energy Solution’s programmable load bank – a sophisticated unit which puts ample load (75% -90%) onto the generator alongside variations in load to reflect real life application.
The purpose of the run in is to apply load to the generator for its first 50 hours of run time. Although it is important to load a generator at all times it is particularly vital in the first 50 hours. Correct load ensures that combustion chambers temperatures and pressures are high enough to bed-in the piston rings, which in turn ensures that they live to their full life potential.
Energy Solutions MD Paul Holland explains the benefit for customers:
“The service is a brilliant option for boat builders and owners wanting to use the vessel immediately it is fully kitted. Historically generators are run in once the vessel is finished but this can waste valuable yard or charter time. This method allows any issues to be fixed before installation and guarantees no loss of sailing time.”
