Ocean Reunion leading the way in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge
We are delighted to be a sponsor of the Ocean Reunion team with Victron Energy power equipment* as they continue to lead the race in the Talisker Whiskey Atlantic Challenge. The race started on December 15th 2015, with 26 teams taking part in what is considered the world’s toughest rowing race. The competitors will row 3,000 nautical miles from La Gomera in the Canary Islands to Antigua, with the leaders anticipated to arrive this weekend or next Monday (24th/25th January).
This is a truly gruelling race, participants typically row two hours on, two hours off, 24 hours per day. The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is renowned for its treacherous conditions and more people have been into space than have rowed across the Atlantic! Competitors burn around 8,000 calories per day and lose around 20% of their body weight over the duration of the race. They have been enduring 40ft waves, tropical storms, sleep deprivation, sweltering heat and the psychological stresses of living and working in such a dangerous and unpredictable environment.
