Case Study: Containerised Hybrid Power Solution for Landmine Clearance project in South Sudan
During spring 2020, Energy Solutions was approached by The Development Initiative (TDI) looking for alternatives to powering an accommodation site for a mine clearance project in support of the United Nations in South Sudan The site was operating at the time with a single 100 kVA diesel generator running 24 hours a day, 7 days week to provide power for the site’s occupants.

George Killaspy, the owner of this brand new 55ft, 14 ton narrowboat started this project knowing that his boat was more about living than travelling. Using the boat as his home whilst working in London he would only be moving around 1-2 miles every fortnight, and creature comforts dictated power requirements more than worries of running out of range.
Not only did the design include an electric motor – bringing the silence, and emission free environment missing on many such projects, it also incorporated renewable energy and a lithium battery system for even greater efficiencies.

Landamores unveil the Waterworld electric motor in the Frolic 31
Landamores Boatbuilders based in Hoveton in Norfolk were one of the first of Energy Solutions’ customers to specify Waterworld electric motors for new builds in 2020. With an initial order of 4 x 4 kW systems for installation in boats being built for clients in Leek, Peterborough, Henley and Amsterdam the Landamores team designed a specification to directly to address client’s requirements. The first installation into their Frolic 31, a stunning gentleman’s launch, has been for their client in Leek - Rudyard Lake, who will be using it for running day trips. The Waterworld motor has been combined with a 48volt, 400 amp battery bank to provide power for a full day’s cruising.
