Controlling Titan – Energy Solutions Panels Installed on the PLA’s New SuperBoat

Energy Solutions are delighted to be one of the suppliers for London Titan – the Port of London Authority’s (PLA) new and unique multi-purpose mooring maintenance vessel.  Working with Manor Marine, Energy Solutions were commissioned to design and build the control and monitoring panels for the vessel.

Representing the PLA’s single biggest investment of the past 20 years, versatile is essential for a port that welcomes everything from container ships to HMS Invincible, tall ships to rowing boats. Her unique design means she can work both at sea and in shallower waters all the way up to Richmond Lock.

Energy Solutions’ Head of Sales Mark Penny explains how the company undertook their part of the project: “We are fortunate to work with the PLA on many power, monitoring and control projects. On this project we had a great working relationship with Manor Marine who called us in for our bespoke panel building skills. The units were built here at our manufacturing unit in Kent and then taken to Portland to be fitted.”

The vessel is on display at the marine trade Seawork show and will be in service by the summer.

ES Lithium Ion Li3PO4

Energy Solutions are launching their first 24 volt Lithium Ion Battery for the marine market at Seaworks 2015.

The demand for intelligent batteries which allow greater capacity and optimise power use is on the increase across the marine market. Energy Solutions are addressing that demand with a brand new battery which is designed to be a simple swap out for lead acid batteries. With all the protection and control built in - it is as close to a like for like swap as you can get.

Energy Solutions’ MD Paul Holland explains the technology: “The battery is composed of Lithium-iron-phosphate (LiFePO4 or LFP),  the safest of the mainstream Li-ion battery type. With a capacity of 400 Ah (10.4kWh) the battery caters for applications with high energy requirements.”

As well as this there are numerous other advantages to Lithium Ion:

  • Weight reduction -up to 80% lighter than lead acid batteries (for same useable capacity)
  • Fast recharging - can be fully recharged within one hour
  • Conversion efficiency -  99% efficient at converting charge energy to charge source
  • Less Bulky,  1/3 less space
  • Longer Service Life,  2000 - 3000 cycles
  • No Sulphating - can be left in a discharge state without damage
  • Low self- discharge rate
  • Great for situations with long periods of non-use

Those interested in the new ES Lithium Ion Li3PO4 battery will be able to see a demonstration unit on the Energy Solutions stand A197 and collect full technical information and pricing at Seaworks 2015.
